EDWARD “ED” JOHN NEMEC

     Edward “Ed” John Nemec, 86, passed away July 10, 2022, at his home in Black River Falls. He was born Jan. 30, 1936, to Elmer and Sylvia (Antos) Nemec in Black River Falls.

     Ed attended Squaw Creek School through eighth grade and then Black River Falls High School, where he served as the class president for the Class of 1954. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a staff sergeant prior to his honorable discharge in 1962. He married his high school sweetheart, Sue Reber, who preceded him in death in 1991.

     He was an active member of the Black River Falls Fire Department and EMS service from 1961 until 1974, where he served as one of the first EMTs to be registered in the state and assigned the Wisconsin Emergency Medical Technician State number of 60. He held the role of department secretary for three years. Ed served on the city of Black River Falls Common Council as well.

     He was employed by the Jackson Box Factory in Black River Falls, as well as Hart Tie and Lumber. Ed was also an active member of the American Legion Miles-Hagen Post 200 in Black River Falls, where he served on the Funeral Honors team for many years. Ed enjoyed woodworking, trap shooting and farming. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his two grandsons.

     Ed is survived by his only daughter, Anna (Robert) Becker; his grandsons, Matthew and David Becker; and his brother, Larry (Sharon) Nemec. 

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Sue; and sister Arlene (Richard) Bonetti.

     Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Buswell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery with full military honors. Friends and family are invited for visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Thursday.

     In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be directed to the American Legion Miles-Hagen Post #200 or Black River Falls EMS Department.

            The Buswell Funeral Home of Black River Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
