BARBARA E. NORGAARD

 

     Barbara E. Norgaard, 85, passed away April 4, 2023, at Bethany Riverside Nursing home in La Crosse, WI. 

     Barbara was born Sept. 6, 1937, in the back of the family grocery store in Valley Junction, WI, to Lawrence E and Hulda Churchill. She was a graduate of Black River Falls High School, class of 1955. After schooling, she worked at the Wisconsin Conservation Department in Black River Falls. On June 21, 1958, she married David C. Norgaard of Melrose, WI, where they settled, raised their family and worked at Norgaard Insurance Agency. In 2020, David and Barbara moved to La Crosse.

     Barb enjoyed photography, motorcycling, fishing, hunting, reading and singing in Sweet Adelines. In high school, she enjoyed playing flute and cello. She was active in choir, theatre and band. Barb was active in her church activities, including choir, Bible studies, lay speaking and Bible Study Fellowship.

     Barb is survived by her husband, David, of 65 years; son John (Jane) Norgaard of Melrose, WI; and daughter Lauren (David) LeBlanc of Black River Falls, WI. She was always proud of her grandchildren, Jaclyn Smith of Holmen, WI, J. Erik (Kasia) Norgaard of Plover, WI, Averi (Jordan) Talburt of Kilauea, HI, Alyson (Jordan) Ogren of Winona, MN, Andrew Clement of Cornell, WI, Alex Dechant of Eau Claire, WI, and Austin Dechant of La Crosse, WI; six great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews. 

     Along with her parents, Barb is preceded in death by her brother, Larry (Iris) Churchill of Mayville, WI; and other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

     Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 1 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2023, at the Torgerson Funeral Home, 408 N. Water Street, Black River Falls, WI. Burial will be at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of Bethany Riverside Nursing Home for their dedicated compassionate care. Donations may be made to the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Association or Bethany Riverside in Barb’s memory.
