STEVEN R. PARMENTER

     Steven R. Parmenter, 74, of Cataract, WI, passed away April 21, 2023, at Gundersen Medical Center, La Crosse, WI. 

     Steve was born to Raymond and Delores (Dahl) Parmenter in La Crosse, WI, Sept. 11, 1948. He graduated from Bangor High School in 1966 and attended WWTC. On Sept. 30, 1967, he married Phyllis (Zebell) at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sparta, WI.

     In 1968, Steve was drafted in the U.S. Army and proudly did a tour in Vietnam. He was an active member for many years in the Cashton VFW Post #8584.

     Steve and Phyllis farmed in rural Melrose, WI, for over 20 years, while they raised their four children. He also drove bus for the Melrose-Mindoro School District and was self-employed doing pest control, known to many as “the fly guy.”

     Despite his bad knees, it was amazing that he was still able to do so much. Steve enjoyed talking with his customers, hunting, bird-watching, complaining about any Wisconsin sports team and taking the occasional trip to the casino. But spending time with his wife, children and grandkids was when he was happiest. 

     Steve is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children and grandchildren - Tom and Melissa Parmenter and children Nicole and Megan of Germantown, WI; Dennis and Lori Parmenter and children Allie and Maddie of DeForest, WI; Cheri and Luis Bonilla and children Luis Fernando and Joe of Janesville, WI; and Chad and Kim Parmenter and children Blake and Scarlett of West Bend, WI; sister Kathy (Russell) Marx of Marshfield, WI; brother Alan (Lorna) Parmenter of Appleton, WI; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. 

     Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Delores, and his sister, Gail.

     Funeral Services with full military honors will be held Friday, April 28, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home, 1132 Angelo Rd., Sparta, WI. Family and friends are invited for visitation Friday from 12 p.m until the time of services at the funeral home.

     The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given in Steve’s name.
