MARY JANE SKAAR
Mary Jane Skaar died July 26, 2023, by natural causes. The family takes comfort that she is in peace and is no longer suffering.
Mary was born July 18, 1945, to Joseph Roman and Sally Margaret (Sabota) Skroch in Whitehall, WI. She was raised in Independence and then moved to Hixton, WI, in 1952 with her parents and brothers, David and Paul. They owned Skroch’s Bar for the next 18 years, where she tended bar. She graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1963, and was married to Gary Skaar. They moved to Racine, WI, in 1963 where she worked as a secretary and her husband worked for Case.
In 1967, they decided to raise their growing family on the Skaar family farm in Taylor, WI, where they farmed until 1988. After the sale of the farm, Mary became a loan officer for Rural Development and with a few promotions ended up in the Stevens Point office after her divorce. She retired after 20 years with many accolades to add to her accomplishments. She moved back to Black River Falls to be closer to her family.
Mary enjoyed many hobbies, and in her younger years, was on the women’s bowling league and competed at state. She also enjoyed gardening, nature, her beloved dogs and traveling. She loved spending time with her three children, Scott (Jennifer) Skaar, Brenda Harris, and Melissa (Todd) Erickson and once grandchildren came, loved spending time with them. She was a wonderful grandma and had a special place in her heart for her five grandchildren, Samantha Skaar, Aaron Skaar, Makayla Harris, Megan and Lauren Bergerson. She later added two more with open arms with the addition of Tyler and Haley Erickson to the family.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, brother (David Skroch), and son-in-law (Lance Bergerson).
A memorial service for Mary will be held Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Upper Pigeon Creek Lutheran Church in Northfield, WI. Friends may call for visitation from 10 a.m. until the start of services.
