ALVIN “MIKE”  VOSS

Alvin Fred Voss, 75, of rural Fairchild passed away with his family by his side Sunday afternoon, Oct. 22, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.

More commonly known by Mike, Mike was born Aug. 16, 1948, in Beloit, WI, to Henry and Shirley (Weiler) Voss. At the age of two, his family moved to their farm in the Price area of Garfield Township, Jackson County. It was in this area that Mike continued to farm all of his life.

He was confirmed at the neighboring Price Lutheran Church, attended Levis County School and Osseo Middle and High School.

Alvin was drafted and served in the United States Army in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the home farm and continued farming until ill health forced him to retire.

Farming was not only his occupation but his favorite pastime too. He was a shy man that preferred to stay home with Bonnie, but did enjoy visiting Bonnie’s family in Missouri and with his neighbors. In addition to tending to his cows, he also enjoyed the  several dogs he raised throughout his life in addition to the pet goat he once had.

Alvin will be dearly missed by Bonnie, his constant companion for over 30 years; sister Esther Ames of Ocoee, FL; niece Michelle (Brent) McCoy; three nephews, Michael (Wendy) Ames, Will Ames and John (Tina) Ames.

Alvin was preceded in death by his mother Shirley in 1953; father Henry in 1974; and siblings, Lois Ann Voss, Linda Lee Voss and Henry Phillip Voss.

At Mike’s request, no public service will be held. Memorials can be given to the American Heart Association. The family is assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
