Gwen Edward Twesme, age 79, passed away peacefully June 20, 2026.
Born March 26, 1947, to Edna (Pederson) and John Twesme, Gwen lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, curiosity and quiet strength. A lifelong truck driver, he spent nearly six decades behind the wheel, proudly logging more than four million miles throughout his career. The open road was more than a profession to Gwen - it was a way of life. His commitment, reliability and work ethic earned the respect of those who knew him and worked alongside him.
Gwen had a lifelong love of learning and an insatiable curiosity about the world around him. He could always be counted on for a random fact, a bit of history or an explanation of how something worked. He was always thinking, always exploring ideas and always eager to learn something new. Whether discussing technology, automobiles, current events or life’s bigger questions, Gwen brought thoughtfulness and perspective to every conversation.
He was a gifted storyteller who could captivate a table with tales from the road, life experiences and observations gathered over countless miles. His laugh was infectious, his wit sharp and his presence comforting. Gwen enjoyed movies, firearms, automobiles, technology, his family and friends and, above all, being out on the wide-open road.
While his career took him countless miles from home, family was always at the center of his heart. Gwen was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and uncle who found great pride in the lives and accomplishments of those he loved.
He is survived by his children, Bobbi Rownd of Rochester, MN; Shanna (Scott) Jensen of Westby, WI; and Bradley (Felicia) Twesme of Bethlehem, GA. He also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren, a beloved sister, a brother, three nieces and one nephew, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Twesme, Edna (Pederson) Mahlum, and Donald Mahlum; and by his brother, John “Jackie” Twesme.
Gwen will be remembered for his steady presence, his resilience, his stories from the road and the love he shared with his family. Though he has completed his final journey, the memories he leaves behind will continue to guide and comfort those who knew and loved him.
He was deeply loved and will be forever missed.
A visitation was held at South Beaver Creek Church in Ettrick, WI, beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2026, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. A luncheon was served immediately following the service. Interment took place at North Beaver Creek Church Cemetery in Ettrick.
