IRENE SPORS

     Irene Ruth Spors, 73, Melrose, passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022, at Pine View Care Center in Black River Falls. She was born May 4,1949, at Black River Memorial Hospital to Elsie (Erickson) and Roy Jerome. 

     Irene grew up in Browns Valley. Growing up, she loved her horse, Dolly, as well as her cats and dogs. Irene graduated from Melrose-Mindoro High School in 1967. She married Allen Spors on Aug. 6, 1971. Bartending at the Rusty Nail in North Bend, helping Allen on the farm unloading bales, cleaning for JCs in Melrose, and working the election polls for the Town of Melrose were

some jobs that kept her busy. Irene especially enjoyed family picnics and holiday gatherings. She loved visiting her niece, Linda, in Black Hills, SD, as well as another niece, Carol, in Brownsville, TX. Irene made and sold many crafts at local craft shows. She enjoyed crocheting, her flower gardens and just being the life of the party. Her sassy, witty personality was loved by all. Above all, she adored her immediate and extended family.

     Irene is survived by her sons, Alan of Melrose, Michael (Rochelle Sterken) of Mindoro and Mark (Stacy) of Melrose; daughter-in-law Laurie Spors of Cable, OH, and stepson, Paul (Debbie) of Onalaska; grandchildren Zach, Khloe, Austin, Erica, Kael, Jared, Rachel, Paige, Jack, Adam and Gary; sisters Jean Sampson of Black River Falls, Marion Amborn of Mindoro and Vivian (Jim) Elliott of Necedah; and sister-in-law Charlotte Jerome of Holmen.

     She left behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and step-great-grandchildren.

     She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Allen; her parents, Elsie and Roy Jerome; stepson, Tadd Spors; two infant sisters, Carol and Evelyn; two infant brothers, Wayne and Robert; brothers-in-law Wesley Spors, Russell Spors and Darwin Spors; sister-in-law Florence Spors; brothers-in-law Jack Sampson, Thurlo Amborn and Donald Jerome.

     The family would like to thank the Pine View Care Center, Black River Falls, for its wonderful care of Irene for the past year as well as Meadowbrook, Black River Falls, for the three months prior to joining Allen at Pine View Care Center.

     A funeral service will be held with her husband, Allen, Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022, at Melrose Methodist Church, Melrose, WI, at 1 p.m. Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Zwickey Funeral Homes, Melrose, WI, as well as an hour prior to the time of service Thursday at the church. Pastor Robbie Nowicki will officiate.

     Honorary pallbearers include all of the grandchildren.

     Zwickey Funeral Homes in Melrose is assisting the family with arrangements.
