PHILIP "BUTCH" ABBOTT

     Philip J. “Butch” Abbott Jr., 75, of Black River Falls died Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Marshfield Medical Center, Marshfield. He was born on May 13, 1947, to Philip Sr. and Dorothy (Johnson) Abbott in Sparta.

     He lived in Cataract, WI, for his entire childhood. He attended Sparta Area Schools and graduated in 1965. He married Patricia Popp, and they had three children, Kelly, Kurt and Karan.

     Philip worked for Badger Ammunition, Baraboo, until they closed. He then became a guard at Waupun in the state prison system. After that, he worked at the Correctional Center in Black River Falls, then Habelman’s Cranberry Packing in Millston.

     He is survived by his special friend, Judy Ellenberger; his son, Kurt (Connie) Abbott of Warrens; daughter, Karan Stelter of Black River Falls; sisters Nancy Whitaker of Cataract and Betty Voigt (Baby Betty) of Hatfield; and brother Randy (Debbie) Abbott of Sparta; grandchildren Stephan Abbott, Amber Abbott, Justin (Gabby) Abbott, Karyssa (Jack) Haldeman and Trisha (Roman) Abbott-Matthews; great-grandchildren Frankie Abbott, Max Abbott, William Gilbertson, Ronnie Haldeman and Jackie Haldeman; and many nieces and nephews.

     Philip is preceded in death by his son, Kelly Abbott; parents Philip Sr. and Dorothy “Lucille” Abbott; and many aunts and uncles.

     A celebration of life will be held in late August at Deerview in Hatfield (Merrillan), WI.
