ROLF M. CHRISTIANSON

 

     Rolf M. Christianson, 79, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, passed away Jan. 21, 2024, at Edgewater Haven in Port Edwards, WI.

     Rolf was born Sept. 3, 1944, to Victor and Margaret (Johnson) Christianson in Black River Falls, WI. His family moved to Taylor, WI, when he was a teenager. While in high school, he met Gayla Jean Skaar. They were married June 13, 1964. They went on to have three incredible children.

     In his early years, Rolf served an apprenticeship to become a sheet metal journeyman in Milwaukee, WI. In the early 70s they moved back to their hometown area. He worked at the Jackson County Iron Mine after serving another apprenticeship to become a journeyman electrician. He also spent a brief amount of time working in Sturgeon Bay building ships for the Navy. In 1987, Rolf and Gayla relocated to Wisconsin Rapids, where he worked as an electrician at the papermill until his retirement.

     Rolf thoroughly enjoyed fishing in Alaska, spending time with his family and traveling. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and was honored to have been a member of the Lions Club while living in Alma Center.

     He is survived by his wife, Gayla Jean; daughters Vikki (Michael) Graham and April (Michael Thompson); daughter-in-law Kersten Christianson; six grandchildren, Ryan, Jack, Mick, Rie, Layla and Evie; one niece and one nephew, and Keith who became part of the family.

     Preceded in death by his son, Bruce; his parents; two brothers, Carlton and Larry; and his sister, Mary.

     A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

     The family would like to thank the staff at Edgewater Haven and the staff at St. Croix hospice.

     Ritchay Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
