WILLIAM STENULSON

     William Howard Stenulson, 72, passed away Monday, July 5, 2022, at Black River Memorial Hospital in Black River Falls. He was born Dec. 11, 1949, to Adolph (Abe) and Edna (Johnson) Stenulson.

     After graduating from Black River Falls High School, Bill attended Western Wisconsin Technical College (now Western Technical College), where he earned an associate degree in air conditioning and refrigeration. In 1971, Bill enlisted in the National Guard, did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood and served at Fort Sheridan. He was a loyal member of Local 434 of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and worked in many places in Wisconsin and nearby states. The farm in the community where his Norwegian grandparents lived and where he grew up was always his home base, and he lived there permanently when he retired in 2010. Wherever he went, Billy easily made many friends.

     Bill’s hobbies were hunting, fishing, horses, tractors and traveling. He snowmobiled in Yellowstone and camped all the way to Alaska with his cousin, Tom. He was a member of the Beaches Corners Tractor Club and especially liked Oliver tractors. He enjoyed music, played guitar and had a nice singing voice. Squaw Creek Lutheran Church, where his grandparents and parents had been members, was Bill’s life-long church home.

     Billy will be remembered fondly for his big smile and his jovial sense of humor.

     Bill is survived by his sisters JoEllen (William) Mapp and Lois Clifcorn; nieces Wendy Hessburg, Maren Mapp, Greta Greif and Rebecca (Mike) Klosowski; nephews Joel Clifcorn (Tammy Johnson) and Bret (Deanna) Clifcorn; grandnieces Elizabeth Amidon, Tessa Amidon, Megan Greif, Kate Greif, Corinne Seibt and Abigail Seibt; grandniece Evie Clifcorn; grandnephew Ralph James (RJ) Clifcorn and many cousins and friends.

     Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Daryl Stenulson, and his brother-in-law, Ralph Clifcorn.

     A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, at Squaw Creek Lutheran

Church with Vicar August Hohl officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to the

service. Inurnment followed at Squaw Creek Cemetery.

     The family thanks the wonderful caregivers at Gundersen Medical Centers in La Crosse and Whitehall and Black River Memorial Hospital, as well as his many friends who helped him. 

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Squaw Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.

            The Torgerson Funeral Home has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
